Southwestern outsider musician Mark Matos, after thirty-plus years of exploring America, has written a one-man rock opera for America’s 250th Anniversary (it’s more like a one-man rock & roll play, if we are being precise). American Lost & Found celebrates America’s complicated and colorful history through the music of her people; incorporating vinyl records, CDs, a live rock & roll show, and social commentary. “Mama Marko’s Mystery Train” on AM 250, serves as the semi-fictional radio show framing the three-act rock & roll play. A series of PSAs (Public Service Announcements), historical footnotes, personal asides, and a live performance by Mark Matos & His Magic Machine, all take place within the radio show, which culminates in a musical ride on Amtrak’s Sunset Limited, into the voodoo fugue of New Orleans.
