The Kearns Family is a husband-and-wife duo based in Landers, California, whose music blends high-desert folk, cosmic country, and spare, narrative-driven songwriting. Pat Kearns, formerly of Portland’s Blue Skies for Black Hearts, writes and sings, while Susan Kearns plays upright bass. Their debut album, Together and Alone, released in January 2025 and recorded live at their off-grid, solar-powered studio on Goat Mountain, was critically acclaimed for its raw honesty and sense of place.
The songs often center on gamblers, drifters, and the brokenhearted—figures shaped by loss, grit, and wide desert spaces. Tracks like “The Dust” and “Bandito” highlight their unvarnished style and quiet emotional weight. Pat was named Best Male Vocalist by the Joshua Tree Voice in 2023.
